Debenhams is to further ramp up its in-store F&B offer with the introduction of Joe and the Juice sites and through a partnership with Insomnia, Ireland’s largest independently owned coffee shop chain.

The retailer is also set to expand in-store Costa Coffee concessions to over 20 sites after a successful trial of the brand in six sites.

Chief executive Michael Sharp told M&C Report: “We have found that consumers spend more time and 50% more money in-store when food is included in the offer.”

is exploring the option of launching a third party food offer into its stores, after announcing it is to trial six new Costa Coffee concessions across its department store estate.

The company, which operates c160 stores in the UK, said last year that it was in discussions with a number of well-known brands in regards to enhancing its F&B offer.

It initially focused on 22 destination outlets, which don’t currently have a café and restaurant offer.

Costa launched concessions in six stores: Guildford and Slough last June and Derby, Exeter, Haverfordwest and Woking last July.

Joe & the Juice, the Danish juice and coffee bar operator, is targeting central London sites to build its presence in the west end as part of its plans to open 10 – 15 new sites in 2015, M&C Report has learnt.

The company is looking to further develop its retail partnership with John Lewis and Debenhams in cities around the country beginning in the north east and targetting shopping centres. It opened its first site within a John Lewis in Solihull, which marked the company’s debut outside of London, last year.

Insomnia currently operates 36 high street sites in Ireland.
