Costa is consulting with staff on a plan to restructure its operations team, MCA has learnt.

It is understood that the group is proposing to cut the number of regional directors from nine to six and its team of regional development managers from 71 to 66.

A spokeswoman for Whitbread said: “We can confirm that we are making some changes to our site teams within Costa. These changes will result in a simpler organisation structure with more effective ways of working to achieve a more efficient and agile business that is well positioned to deliver our exciting growth strategy. Across Costa we expect to create around 1,500 UK jobs every year.”
