Coffee#1 has extended its presence in the Southeast and Midlands with three new openings, one of which is its first opening inside the M25.

The independent coffeehouse chain opened its 108th store in Leek this week, which will be followed by openings in Macclesfield and Epsom.

After traditionally operating in Wales and the Southwest since its inception in 2001, Coffee#1’s Epsom venue will be its furthest east. The new openings mark an acceleration in the rate of expansion, with a total of 10 new stores opened since the pandemic.

The new venues can accommodate c100 covers each and will offer the brand’s premium coffee and a menu of breakfast pastries, baps, paninis, and cakes.

Despite the impact of cost inflation, the chain has reported it continues to trade well, with Christmas trading at 120% of pre-pandemic levels.

MD Bruce Newman commented: “Expanding our presence in the Midlands is a logical next step for us and we have felt for some time that Coffee#1 would be well received in Leek and Macclesfield. While we will continue to expand within our more traditional geographical areas, we also see significant potential for the brand in the South East and Epsom gives us the opportunity to build brand awareness beyond the South West and Wales.

“We continue to be encouraged by the performance of the business which is testament to the excellence and hard work of our team. I remain confident that the brand is well placed to take advantage of changes in working patterns and I see no reason why Coffee#1 shouldn’t continue to expand through the course of the financial year.”
