Australian coffee and muffins brand bb’s has set out a strategy to grow to 80 UK stores by 2018.

The brand – which currently operates 50 sites across the country – has appointed MMX Retail to work jointly with SBL Retail to deliver its aggressive growth strategy.

bb’s, short for bakers + baristas, was founded in 1985 in Queensland, Australia. After finding success in Queensland it spread worldwide and made its name in the UK in 1997. It was acquired by Brentwood Investments in 2015.

Howard Quigley, Partner at MMX Retail, said: “MMX Retail will play a strategic role in supporting bb’s ambitious growth plans over the coming 18 months. With its commitment to a further 30 stores in this timeframe, we will be looking for units ranging from a minimum of 1,500 sq ft within high footfall locations in the top 200 shopping centres in the UK and Ireland. We look forward to supporting bb’s in becoming one of the leading fashion coffee brands.”

Paul Kotrys, property director at bb’s, said: “As bb’s looks to further its success across the UK and Ireland, we wanted to partner with the right agent – one with extensive retail expertise and connections with landlords in the top shopping centres nationwide. As a business, our focus is to remain fashion forward and we believe this partnership will allow us to find the best locations for our new portfolio of stores.”
