Bewiched, the Northampton-based coffee shop group, has lined up two new sites, and is looking to crack the burgeoning drive-thru coffee market, MCA has learnt.
The concept has secured sites in Fletton Quays in Peterbrough and the High Street in Higham Ferres which will take it to 11 sites.
Founder Matt Fountain said he hoped to secure two drive-thu sites in the coming months which he hopes will demonstrate a working model for the independent business.
Fountain is looking at two avenues to enter this space – one a new-build drive-thru site which the two main coffee players Costa and Starbucks have already turned down, but which he sees as having great potential; the other a former Little Chef which will repurposed into a drive-thru.
He told MCA: “It’s a burgeoning market, and if you look at the States, which has had a very strong drive thru market, that has a lot of independent offerings in the drive thru front.
“Drive thru coffee is only just coming through here in the last few years, it’s not a mature market.
“The key for us to get a couple of working models in place.”
Fountain said while franchising had been considered, growth had so far been organic, and would focus on corporate stores for the foreseeable future.
He said Bewiched would consider partnerships with travel operators such as SSP or HMSHost.
