CENTER PARCS is considering plans to open in Russia, in what would be the first move overseas for the British holiday company. The group, owned by Blackstone, the American buyout firm, has been holding talks with investors in Russia about building its holiday villages in the region. The leisure company believes there is big demand in central and eastern Europe for its type of product. It is not clear how far the talks have progressed or when a Russian site might open. But one source familiar with the plans said: “Emerging markets are a big opportunity.” There are a number of Center Parcs sites in western Europe although these are owned by a different company, the French holiday firm Pierre & Vacances.
