The average cost for a family eating Christmas dinner in restaurants, carveries and pubs will reach £340.57 this year, according to a new study of over 200 businesses by Net Voucher Codes.

The research, which is based on prices for four adults, two children and a teenager having a three-course festive supper including drinks, carveries offer the cheapest option at £280.54, followed by pubs at £311.92 and hotels and restaurants at £429.27.

It found that a single consumer can expect to pay an average of £58.18 for their festive meal away from home.

The average cost of a meal for children up to the age of 12 throughout the country is £30.95, while for teenagers the figure rises to £45.94.

The most expensive Christmas dinner on offer this year is at a hotel-based restaurant in Cardiff, where adult diners will pay £125 for a Christmas meal.

The research found the cheapest Christmas dinner per adult is at the John Barras pub in Glasgow, where a full Christmas dinner will set you back £24.99.

The cheapest city for Christmas dinner is Leeds, where family groups can expect to pay an average of £255.30, while London is the most expensive at £506, followed by Ipswich at £418.57.
