British consumers are saving up to £170,000 on eating out on an average weekday when using restaurant deals, according to new research daily deal aggregator Bownty.com.

The figures suggest that on a typical weekday, UK consumers’ spend around £140,000 on over 5,000 restaurant deals from companies including Groupon, LivingSocial and Wowcher, by using restaurant deals for everything from a seven course tasting menu to an afternoon tea for two.

Steffen Frolund, chief executive of Bownty.com said: “Restaurant deals are our most popular category and the 2-for-1 voucher is still the most common deal format for restaurant deals, meaning consumers can simply enjoy eating out without being shocked by the bill at the end.

“As the UK edges out of the recession, daily deals continue to thrive. The diverse range of restaurant deals available across the whole of the UK every day is helping to tempt Brits out of their houses, without breaking the bank.”
