The Old Fashioned has been named as the most popular cocktail in the world, in a Diageo survey of bartenders.

The second most popular was Italian cocktail the Negroni, which includes gin, vermouth and Campari.

Whisky sour, margarita and Moscow mule made up the rest of the top five, with espresso martini, daiquiri, dry martini, Tom Collins and Manhattan making up the top 10.

The survey was published by Diageo to coincide with World Cocktail Day, with responding bartenders from Puerto Rico, Portugal, Greece, Norway, Iceland, UAE, Beirut, USA, Canada, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

According to the latest IWSR research, millennials are driving the renewed thirst for cocktails, with almost 9 out of 10 (88%) younger drinkers enjoying mixed drinks on a night out.
