Arran Brewery, the Scottish brewer and pub operator, has been granted planning permission for its Sake distillery that is to be built in Dreghorn in Ayrshire.

The site was secured by Arran Brewery in March 2014 and has been targeted by vandals but the company said it is now ready for development that will include a bottling facility, beer hall, a brewing school, a research and development centre for brewing and distilling.

“We are very pleased to have received planning permission and will now be seeking building warrants so work can start in earnest.  Currently the site is being refurbished and brought back up to its former glory, managing director Gerald Michaluk said. “We will be very stretched at the moment with two major developments on the go here at Dreghorn and at Loch Earn where a new brewery and visitor centre is being built. These are exciting times for Craft Breweries and especially Arran Brewery which has done particularly well with the success of Arran Blonde Scotland’s best-selling packaged Craft Beer”.

The site will house rotating exhibitions as well as permanent exhibitions about Japan, brewing and distilling.

The majority of Sake produced at the site will be sold in Japan where Arran Brewery currently exports its beers.
