Zaks, the Norfolk-based American diner chain that has been operating for nearly 40 years, is opening its first franchised restaurant in south west Norfolk and plans to roll the concept out nationwide.

The restaurant will be the fourth Zaks in the county and will serve the same classic American food.

Zaks launched the franchise concept in July 2013 and has received considerable interest before signing the first deal with husband and wife team David and Joan Hughes. A spokesperson for the company said it is very interested in finding franchisees across the country.

The brand, which has been trading in the Norwich area since 1976, currently has three restaurants: Zaks Waterside Grill and Bar, Zaks Mousehold Diner and Zaks Poringland Diner.

In November Zaks introduced a selection of new burgers including the ‘Dairy State’ from Wisconsin finished with smooth cheese and butter; ‘The Hogfather’ which is topped with pulled pork and the ‘Heaven or Hell’ burger which gives the option of cool sour cream with sweet chilli or hot sauce and flaming jalapenos. Diners are given the choice to add more heat with “Man Up” sauce.
