Tossed, the London-based healthy eating concept, which opened its first motorway site at the Birchanger Green Welcome Break Services on the M11 last week, has told M&C Report it is considering further expansion into the transport hub sector.

Vincent McKevitt, the founder of Tossed, said he hopes to open more Welcome Break locations but much will depend on the success of the initial site.

McKevitt said trading at the Essex site had “been very encouraging for the first weekend.”

The new site opened in response to growing demand for a wider choice of roadside food options: “there are not enough healthy options for people on the move; even truck drivers need to eat healthily,” said McKevitt.

“Here at Tossed HQ, as consumers when we visit service stations our options are very limited and that is the feedback from Welcome Break. Healthy eating isn’t niche anymore and it definitely fits into transport hubs because people don’t always want to sit down to a big heavy meal.”

The roadside location brings Tossed’s estate to 15 across London and the southeast.

The company is considering further expansion at transport hubs, McKevitt said: “We are always in talks with everyone,” but would not comment on concrete plans.

“The beauty of Tossed is that we are in various formats; we are in retail shopping centres and high street locations and now we are in transport hubs. By going in to Welcome Break it increases our brand going into the regions,” McKevitt said when asked about further expansion of the concept across the UK.
