Taco Bell, the Yum! Brands-owned chain, will sell beer at its high street restaurants for the first time in the UK from this week.

The company is partnering with Sol Cerveza to serve the beers with dine-in and take-away meals at its Sheffield and Chelmsford high street stores.

Beer will also be available as part of its Taco Tuesday promotion which will launch next week (23 June) to include a Crunchy Taco and Sol for £2.

The global restaurant chain launched alcohol in the US last month including wine, beers and margaritas.

“Taco Bell is always going the extra mile to create unique experiences for our fans” said Ellen Gault, marketing manager for Taco Bell U.K. and Europe. “Crunchy tacos and cold beer are the perfect pairing and Taco Tuesdays help reinforce our craveable Mexican food at an unbelievable value.”

Gault told M&C there are no current plans to broaden the range of alcohol available.

The quick service restaurant launched its first high street restaurant format in the UK last year in Sheffield and has ambitions to open many more sites across the country. In January Nick Dawson, the head of Taco Bell’s UK division told M&C there is potential to open “hundreds” of restaurants in the UK.

Having developed its brand and built up a supply chain the company is now looking to accelerate the pace of openings to double its estate by the end of this year and then open five to 10 every year as it scales up.
