PizzaExpress has secured Coeliac UK’s Gluten-Free (GF) accreditation just three months after launching a new range of dishes carrying their NGCI accreditation.

The company said that for the one in 100 people across the UK who have been diagnosed with coeliac disease, this means more choice on the high street, with over 420 of its restaurants serving gluten-free starters, mains, desserts and a gluten-free beer.

PizzaExpress’ menus will be updated with Coeliac UK’s GF symbol over the next few months.

PizzaExpress’ marketing director, Emma Woods, said: “We worked obsessively to ensure that we have a delicious and inspiring range of GF dishes. Just before we launched our NGCI menu, we took the decision to introduce into our restaurants gluten-free flour, further reducing the possibility of cross contamination.  It was a big decision but it was the right one. As a result, we’ve been able to go after Coeliac UK’s GF accreditation much sooner than expected. The feedback when we moved to NGCI was incredibly positive so we’re delighted to move to GF and hope our customers are too.”

Coeliac UK chief executive, Sarah Sleet, said, “PizzaExpress showed huge passion for getting their original NGCI range right.  They’ve listened to every piece of feedback from customers and the fact they have been able to move to a GF accreditation so quickly is testament to their hard work.”
