Hugh Osmond, the serial sector investor, has lined up a first site in London for his new all-day dining concept, Coppa Club, MCA understands.

It is understood that Osmond has secured a unit at the bottom of the Three Quays development near the Tower of London for the format which launch last summer the ground floor of the Great House Hotel in Sonning, near Reading, Berkshire.

Osmond told MCA: “With Coppa in Sonning we have 5,000 to 6,000sq ft, with the space to create something like a club, with many different areas. It has got things you would expect to find in a Soho House and I don’t think you can recreate on the high street. But there are things that we might take from it for a smaller version. Coppa has been going great since the day it opened.

“However, with very little marketing, it is working so well and beyond expectations that I am sure we will want to learn from it and try to use some of the themes there. Without making any promises, if it continues to go well, I would also hope very much that you will be seeing further Coppa Clubs where we can find the appropriate pitch with plenty of space.”

The launch and development of the format was overseen by ex-Jamie’s Italian executive chef Matt Fanthorpe.

Sister brand Strada unveiled the first of its new look restaurants last November at St Katherine’s Dock in London as the next stage in the evolution of the brand to bring it back to basics.

The opening Coppa Club London is expected to coincide with the time that the Strada vision has been realised, which operations director Tom James said would allow the group to make any decisions about further sites or conversions across both formats.
