McDonald’s, the fast food behemoth, is in talks to take a prominent site in London’s West End, M&C Report understands.

The group is believed to be leading the race to acquire the Leon de Bruxelles site in Cambridge Circus for an opening later this year.

The company has been looking to increase its central London presence and was believed to have been the under bidder for the Love’s Pasta site in St James Street that was recently acquired by Nando’s.

Leon de Bruxelles, the mussels and fries restaurant chain, made its UK debut on the former Med Kitchen site in London’s Cambridge Circus, in January 2012.

The Triangle Group signed the rights to be the chain’s master franchisee in the UK and had planned to open between 10 and 15 sites in the country.

The site currently has 220 covers and also provides an extra 39 seats on its terrace during the summer.

Founded in 1989, Leon de Bruxelles, which specialises in mussels, fries and beer, currently operates c.60 restaurants in France, plus sites in Belgium, Dubai, Oman, Abu Dhabi and Japan.
