A McDonald’s customer has vowed to boycott the restaurant after staff refused to serve him at a drive-through window because he was riding a bicycle.

Alex Chapman of Shoreham, East Sussex, was told that McDonald’s was not insured to serve him as he might have an accident if he tried to cycle holding bags of food and drink.

Chapman said: "I've done this sort of thing before at places like Burger King and there has been no problem at all.

"It's ridiculous. There are no signs saying if you turn up on a push bike, you cannot be served. I'm never going back there again."

McDonald's said: "We would not regard it as safe and responsible for us to do.

"If there was an accident because an individual on a bike could not manage the bike, a couple of bags and a drink, we would seem irresponsible."
