KFC has drawn up a list of more than 500 locations it wants to open new stores in across the UK and Ireland to add to its 850 estate.

The fast food chain, which is already the second biggest restaurant brand in the UK in terms of outlets, has published the 537-long list on its development website.

KFC said there was “amply scope” to deliver 400 from this list due to ”the strength of the brand and the differentiated consumer offer.”

The targets feature 34 in Ireland, 35 in the South West, 59 in the South East, 13 in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, 22 in Wales, 48 in the West Midland, 45 in East Anglia, 29 in the East Midlands, 106 in the North, 22 in Scotland and 124 in London.

Sites include Basildon, Bury St Edmunds, Ely, Peterborough, St Albans, Skegness, Galway, Barnet, Sutton, Worksop, Hove, Dorchester, Mold and Wolverhampton.

Preferred destinations range from petrol stations, pubs, garages, retail parks, office blocks, car parks, car show rooms, train stations, hotels and shopping centres.

Chris Holmes, chief development officer at KFC UK & Ireland, said: “We’re always looking to open in new locations to meet demand from our fans, and have a list on our development website of places we’re interested in exploring.

“We’re proud to be growing and each new KFC brings with it a range of local investments – local jobs, award winning training and a commitment to work alongside local charities to make a positive difference in every community.

“As more restaurants open, our fans will also notice our continued investment in city centres with our new design, which we’re using in smaller locations in busy urban areas to help us bring the best of KFC to as many new customers as possible.”

Earlier this month KFC GB sales figures revealed a 5% rise in the third quarter to September, with sales for the year to date also up 5%.

MCA’s Restaurant Market Report estimates KFC’s 2016 turnover will be £994m - but that its market share would decrease by 0.1pp.
