M&C Report talks to Rob Hunt, joint managing director of Krispy Kreme, about his best investment, the best piece of advice he’s ever received and identifies the person who has had the most influence in his career.

What’s the most important action the industry can take to encourage the consumer? Great product, great customer service, great experience, great value. The competition is so fierce for the consumer’s limited disposable income and, as an industry, we have to be better than ever at what we do.

What single action could Government make that would make a difference? I hate relying on others - we need to solve our own problems.

What is your top priority? My customers and my teams. Get those two things right and everything else tends to follow.

What has been your best investment? My ipad - I can’t remember life without it !

What has been your best business decision? The MBO of Krispy Kreme myself and Richard Cheshire led in 2011. I love having our destiny in our own hands.

How much has your business changed to combat the recession? I don’t think things have changed that much - the consumer will still reward those businesses that do things right - so we continue to strive to do that for every customer, every day.

Who is doing something special in the industry? I think everyone who is thriving in this market is doing something special but I have a soft spot for Cote and I always have a great night at The Living Room.

Most admired brand? Amazon. The way that business has evolved in such a short time is incredible.

Who has been most influential in your career? Hard to pick out one person - I try to learn things from everyone I come into contact with.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? “To thine own self be true” Polonius in Hamlet - I guess strictly speaking it wasn’t advice for me but its good advice nonetheless!
