Inferno Pizza, the pizza concept backed by Bakkavor, the international manufacturer of fresh prepared foods, is to make its debut in London, after securing a site in Wandsworth, MCA has learnt.

The concept, on which Kevin Todd, the former managing director of Mitchells & Butlers and current non-executive director of the Big Easy, is advising, is believed to have secured a site next to Pret A Manger at the Southside scheme for an opening later this summer.

The London-based group, which has a turnover of £1.52bn and is a major supplier to Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Waitrose, opened its first site under the “create-your-own” concept in Trinity Place, Nottingham last year. A further site has already been secured in the Eldon Square scheme in Newcastle.

Todd is advising Bakkavor, the international manufacturer of fresh prepared foods, on the development and expansion of its pizza concept after becoming chairman of its food services division.

The group recently said that the concept had proved successful with consumers and “we are planning on rolling out this model in the coming months”.

Bakkavor said that the launch of Inferno was in line with its strategy to target growth opportunities aligned to its core business and allowed it to capitalising on its experience in chilled pizza.

The concept says that consumers can “create your perfect pizza with over 50 toppings, fired up fresh in just 180 seconds” or select from one of the six Hall of Flames signature pizzas, including The Inferno.

It said: “Whatever the pizza, however many toppings, it’s all for less than £7!”

The new concept offers both “take-a-seat” and “take-away” services.
