Michelin-starred chef Sergio Herman hopes to launch his luxury chip shop brand Frites Atelier in the UK, MCA understands

Herman, who has been awarded three Michelin stars since 2005 and was featured in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants eight consecutive times, currently operates four sites in the Netherlands under the concept, with fifth set to open this year in Amsterdam.

He is understood to have instructed property agents to looks for A1 or A3 sites in central London with the aim of opening the first UK Frites Atelier by the end of the year/early next year.

Herman’s existing restaurants are The Jane in Antwerp and Pure C in Cadzand, which have both Michelin stars.

The aim behind the new concept is to turn “the humble potato and the common fast food into something good”. Herman spent more than eighteen months experimenting with chip recipes, toppings and fresh sauces.

The company is also set to open in Belgium.
