UAE-based hospitality investment company, Gates Hospitality is behind the UK launch of RedFarm, the New York-based, high-end Chinese-American dim sum concept, MCA has learnt.

The launch of RedFarm on the ex-Belushi’s site on 9 Russell Street, Covent Garden, this October, will also mark the UK debut for Gates Hospitality, which operates or owns c60 restaurants, hotels and spas across the Middle East.

It is thought it will look at other opportunities to introduce further new concepts into the UK.

RedFarm was developed in New York by dim sum master, chef Joe Ng and Chinese food expert Ed Schoenfeld, and brings a “greenmarket sensibility to modern, inventive Chinese food with rustic décor”.

The UK site will be across four floors, with plans for a speakeasy bar on the ground level, and the other three floors dedicated to dining.

RedFarm currently operates two restaurants in New York City in Hudson Street in the West Village and at 2170 Broadway.

Last year, CapCo bought back the lease of the Opera Terrace site, which will soon re-open as a SushiSamba.

It is understood that DCL advised on the Russell Street deal.
