Carluccio’s, the Italian restaurant, deli and shop chain, has announced that it will close its first restaurant in Neal Street, of which Antonio Carluccio became managing director in 1981. The Neal Street restaurant will close in Spring 2007 due to the expiry of its lease and the landlord’s decision to re-develop the site. The Italian eaterie, which was created by Sir Terence Conran in 1971, became Carluccio’s flagship site and the company’s first food shop was opened next to the restaurant. The group is set to open another Covent Garden store later this financial year.
