Burger King is putting microchips alongside the french fries in a joint venture with Stelios Haji-Ioannou's easyInternetCafe.

Computers are to be installed in Burger King's flagship restaurant in Piccadilly, London, over the next few weeks. If the concept takes off it could be rolled out to other branches.

Andre Lacroix, Burger King's UK general manager and international president, said: "We plan on using our Piccadilly restaurant to develop this innovative idea and will consider possible ways to extend the concept across our business in the UK."

Haji-Ioannou said: "Location and traffic flow is important for both our businesses. There's an obvious potential synergy for us and certainly a real convenience benefit for our customers.

"We are both looking forward to developing our ideas."
