Brighton-based fried chicken concept Bok Shop plans to open a further 10 sites in the next two years following a significant private equity backing.

With existing sites in Brighton and Eastbourne, as well as a delivery-only kitchen in Croydon, the brand has lined up a new 100-cover restaurant in Southampton’s West Quay to open this summer.

The additional new openings will range from 30 to 100 cover restaurants, to-go and delivery-only sites, all propelled by a £1.2m injection into the business from an unnamed private equity group.

Founded in 2017, the business saw revenues surge in 2020, with its existing sites able to operate via its purpose-built ‘Cluck and Collect by The Bok Shop’ app, as well as through Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

The offer is inspired by London’s fried chicken culture, featuring contemporary twists on street style food with influences from Asia, Southern USA and London.

“We feel there is a gap in the market for a quality chicken inspired offer like ours,” said co-founder Jamie O’Mara. “What Honest Burger has done to burgers, or Pizza Pilgrims has done with Pizza; we want to do that for chicken.

“We’ve lived and breathed The Bok Shop and the hospitality industry since opening the doors on East Street in 2017 and we can’t wait to share the journey.”
