As the air takes on a decidedly fresher feel, pubs and restaurants are unveiling their Autumn menus filled with a host of heartier options. From power omelettes and pumpkin lattes, to jackfruit tacos, we round up some of the latest menu launches and find there is a continued focus on greater choice for vegetarians and vegans.

Las Iguanas has introduced a number of new tapas options, including Copacabana Chicken – spiced masa fried chicken thighs with a spicy Amarillo aioli, and Smoked Salmon Tiradito – the fish is Tiger’s milk and topped with pink pickled onions, sweet roquito peppers and fresh coriander. While its Halloumi Skewers have been moved from the seasonal to the main menu.

Its mains had been added to with a new Brazilian inspired dish called Carne de Sol, which is made with slow-cooked salt cured beef top rib, and served with cassava mash, cassava crisps, winter greens and a rich beef & caramelised onion jus.

The Latin American-inspired chain has also expanded its vegetarian, vegan gluten-free menus, and has introduced smoked chipotle Pulled Jackfruit Burrito, served in a beetroot tortilla, with a vegan jackfruit blue corn tacos coming soon.

As part of Prezzo’s refreshed offering, its seasonal menu, which launched last week includes new dishes such as Beetroot and Goats Cheese Gnocchi, Mediterranean Vegetable Pea Fusilli, Puy lentil roasted beetroot and butternut squash salad and Salted Caramel Chocolate Tart.

While Brewer’s Fayre has introduced a range of new American inspired dishes, including Deep South-inspired Buffalo Goujons, Rack ‘N’ Roll Tennessee Ribs, Chicken ‘N’ Bacon Waffles, The Sloppy Joe Burger – a 6oz beef burger topped with Cheddar cheese, spicy beef chilli and goey cheese sauce. Other new additions include Thai Green Curry, a Beef Yorkshire Wrap, and Cottage Pie.

Pret’s new Autumn menu has big focus on vegan options, and features 15 new products, with its Pumpkin Spice Latte returning to the hot drinks menu. New vegan sweet treats include Almond Butter Bites – bites of dark chocolate filled with almond butter, Dark Chocolate Salted Almonds, and Coconut & Mango bowl.

Hannah Dolan, head of food development at Pret, said: “Our almond butter snacks are some of the most popular new items at Pret – our Dark Chocolate & Almond Butter cookie (the vegan cookie) has had a big thumbs up from our customers.

“We’re excited to introduce more chocolatey and almond butter vegan snacks, as well as a gluten-free Almond Butter & Jam Brownie, alongside a variety of new products. We’re also bringing back the Bang Bang Chicken Wrap (a limited-edition Chef’s Special that was available in the summer) following calls, emails and tweets from customers asking for its return.”

New breakfast items include Pret’s first Jam-Filled Croissant, and Power Omelettes – its most popular breakfast item in the US. They are launching in the UK for the first time this autumn, with Egg White Power Omelette (23g of protein) and a Ham & Spinach Power Omelette (34.4g of protein) options.

Other new items include Lasagne Macaroni Cheese and Chicken Edamame & Ginger Soup, while its toasted baguettes, which were launched in June, will be introduced to more shops this Autumn.

Costa Coffee is boosting its hot drinks offering with a new Bonfire Spiced Range featuring Bonfire Spiced Latte, Bonfire Spiced Hot Chocolate and Bonfire Spiced Cold Brew. New breakfast items include a Free-range Egg Veggie Pot, and the Ultimate Breakfast Wrap, which includes sausage, bacon, egg and mushroom, finished with tomato sauce.

Lunchtime additions include Goats Cheese and Grilled Pepper Focaccia, a Thai Red Curry Meal Pot, a Chilli Con Carne Rice Pot, Chicken Arrabiata Pasta, and Chicken, Spinach and Lentil Soup. While its bakery menu now includes a Vegan Sticky Toffee & Pecan Cookie and Jumble Berry Loaf Cake.

Gennaro Pelliccia, master of coffee at Costa, said: “After the scorching summer we’ve had, we’re ready to welcome autumn and all the flavours it brings.

“We’ve taken inspiration from this time of year to offer an exciting range and catered to a variety of dietary requirements to ensure there is something special for everyone.”

Leon has also introduced several of new vegan and vegetarian dishes, for under £5. Its Rainbow Meze Salad has been reinvented for Autumn as a Lebanese Mezze Salad, with Lentil Masala also added to the menu for lunch, and a Truffled Mushroom pot has been launched as a new breakfast option, which replaces last season’s ham hock version.
