Daniel Thwaites has announced a series of measures in response to what it calls "unprecedented pressures on profitability" caused by the economic downturn, including transferring 37 of its managed businesses to tenanted or leased operations. Five of the company's larger pubs with letting bedrooms will remain as managed operations, but will transfer to the hotel division. Furthermore, certain services which currently operate separately within the Brewery and Shire Hotels, will be centralised. In addition, a thorough review of internal cost structures is being undertaken. The group said the restructuring would affect jobs, with around 55 pub manager roles at risk of redundancy and a further 31 head office staff positions under threat. Shire Hotels previously operated seven hotels throughout England. In addition it owns and runs the Stafford Hotel in London. The group has an estate of over 400 pubs.
