Hertfordshire brewer and operator McMullen’s has secured the freehold of the building occupied by the Old Bank of England Pub in London’s Fleet Street for a sum believed to be in excess of £8m.

Fuller’s currently operates the pub and is believed to have five years left on its lease, after which time the c135-strong McMullen’s will take it on.

Peter Furness-Smith, chief executive of McMullen’s, said: “I can confirm that McMullens has bought the freehold interest in the whole of the building at 194 Fleet Street which includes 1 Bell Yard and The Old Bank of England which is subject to a lease in favour of Fullers”.

Earlier this year, the group told M&C Report that it continued to look for “well located pubs in London and the Home Counties”.

In July, the company acquired the Old Crown in New Oxford St and the Kings Arms in Great Titchfield St from Punch, plus the Old Crown in Royston, which was let out to Bramwell Pub Company on a commercial lease.

AG&G is thought to have advised McMullen’s on the Old Bank deal.
