Nicholson’s, the Mitchells & Butlers-owned pub brand, has teamed up with Thornbridge Brewery for a second round of the Great British Home Brew Challenge. Last year’s contest was won by a beer called Frank as Apollo, a 4.6% premium bitter, by Paul Carruthers, which was brewed at Thornbridge and sold at Nicholson’s pubs. Rob Lovatt, Thornbridge’s head brewer, said: “It was great to see all of the entries last year flying in; I developed my own passion for making beer through home-brewing in my parent’s garage. Hopefully this competition can help to inspire some of the next generation of new and innovative brewers coming through in the UK’s expanding craft beer scene.” Ben Lockwood of Nicholson’s said: “The UK has a great tradition of home brewing and the success of last year’s challenge shows that this trend is still strong today. Our deserving winner, Paul, had his beer professionally produced and served in 80 cask ale British pubs. We are hoping this year should once again be a very interesting competition and whilst serious hopefully great fun for all involved.”
