Managed pub operator JD Wetherspoon has launched an employee discounts scheme, offering money off products at more than 2,000 shops, to its 26,000 members of staff,

More than 7,000 employees have already taken advantage of the scheme, which was launched earlier this month.

The initiative is run by Asperity Employee Benefit, which offers discount packages on behalf of major companies. JD Wetherspoon is believed to be the first pub operator to sign up to the service, which is also used by McDonald’s among other major companies.

Discounts are offered at a range of stores including Marks & Spencer, Asda, Sky, and the Malmaison hotel brand operated by MWB Group. The nature of discounts varies from, for example, re-loadable instore cards and discount vouchers.

Wetherspoon staff can access the scheme’s website both inside and outside of work. Information about it was provided in employees payslips, at weekly staff newsletter and on the intranet. It was also highlighted in head office meetings.

JD Wetherspoon senior personnel manager Julie George said: “Every employee has access to this site. They can log on and find out all sorts of information about their own pay, benefits and training, and other things going on in the organisation.

“We have been putting regular messages on there telling them what is coming soon.”
