The leisure entrepreneur Trevor Hemmings, who owns Blackpool Tower and wants to turn the resort into a Las Vegas-style resort, is 56th richest person in Britain, with £490m, according to The Mail on Sunday.

The Brake family, who supply chilled and frozen food to pubs and restaurants, are 175th with £177m.

Wetherspoon pubs founder Tim Martin is 214th with £152m. His Watford-based business valued at £934m is one of the fastest-growing in the country.

Esmond Bulmer, head of the 115-year-old cider dynasty, and family are 227th with £142m.

Sam Whitbread, last member of the brewing dynasty to leave the business, is number 232 with £138m.

Jamie Palumbo, owner of the Ministry of Sound nightclub, is 258th with £120m.
