Greene King has dropped the practice of offering incoming licensees cooling-off periods and replaced them with 12-month stand-alone tenancies.
Pub Partners, Greene King’s tenanted arm, has not included a cooling-off period clause in its new three or 10-year agreements, but is offering new year-long foundation agreements instead.
Other pub companies such as Enterprise Inns and Punch Taverns have doubled the duration of cooling-off periods to 180 days.
The 2004 Trade & Industry Select Committee Inquiry into pubcos recommended cooling-off periods during which time tenants can cancel agreements if they think they have made the wrong choice.
