Fuller’s has received a £500,000 payout from Aviva after the insurer admitted liability in a dispute over Covid-19-related business interruption (BI).

Earlier this year, the pub chain filed a lawsuit against the insurance giant in a dispute over a BI claim in relation to the closure of its pubs during the covid pandemic.

It follows a surge in hospitality business claims that insurers have failed to pay for losses associated with disruption suffered during Covid 19 lockdowns.

Fuller’s currently owns around 400 pubs throughout the UK, having previously sold its brewing business to Japanese firm Asahi in 2019.

The pubco was forced to close all of its sites after the government introduced compulsory lockdown measures in 2020 in an attempt to restrict the spread of the coronavirus.

Fuller’s posted a £59.2m loss in the financial year ending on 27 March 2021, due to the impact of these restrictions on the pub company’s revenues.
