Camerons Brewery has trialled its first retail agreement.

The company re-opened the Crook Hotel in County Durham in August under an agreement where the manager receives 20% of turnover.

The company invested £80,000 in refurbishing and re-branding the former tenancy.

Chris Soley, director of the Hartlepool-based brewer and pub operator, said: “It’s very much in the style of Amber Taverns and the other agreements that are popping up around the place.

He said: “We have seen the success other people have had with that model. It works well in keeping costs down and growing turnover so everyone reaps the benefit. It drives the correct objectives for the business and seems to have been successful for other people.

“It’s early days but we will monitor how that goes.”
