Camerons has identified more sites with the potential to be converted to The Head of Steam (THoS) concept, but it’s not planning “loads” of conversions to the format, M&C Report has learnt.

At the weekend the Hartlepool-based brewer and pub operator announced that its managed pub Aspire in Tynemouth would re-open as The Head of Steam on 2 May. It follows the company’s acquisition of the seven-strong Head of Steam pub group, led by Tony Brookes, in December.

A Camerons spokesman told M&C Report: “At this current stage with have only identified a few sites that have the potential to be converted to THoS concept. It is a very successful brand and we have to weigh up a lot of factors when looking at potential sites.

“We do not want to devalue this great pub group by opening loads of THoS sites and at this stage we have only looked at the Tynemouth site given Tony’s strong belief it would be the perfect venue.”

Camerons also said it was going to offer its tenants a selection of cask ales from local and national UK brewers as well as craft world beers under a project named ’10 Green Bottles’.

The spokesman added: “We are starting to introduce a more diverse range of cask and world beers into our managed pubs and tenanted estate. Whilst the pubs in our estate cannot all be converted into THoS concept we feel it is vital we do offer a range of exciting new beers/ciders and we have looked at some of the most popular ranges from THoS as a starting point to this.”
