Butcombe Pubs & Inns has reported record sales for March 2024, attributed to a bumper Mother’s Day weekend and the Cheltenham Festival.

The Liberation Group-owned brewer and pub operator saw covers up nearly 8% from last year on Mother’s Day weekend, with families coming out in force – resulting in an increase in food sales of over 29% on 9 and 10 March.

Butcombe, which has sites across the South of England, also reported its sites in and around Cheltenham were fully booked both for accommodation and dining during the Cheltenham Festival from 12-15 March.

Jayson Perfect, COO, Liberation Group, said: “We’re delighted with such a strong start to the Spring/Summer season. Mother’s Day is a big deal and one of the first seasonal sale markers of the year, so to beat our own past records is something to be very proud of.

“Our chefs and teams worked hard to put together a beautifully curated menu sure to impress mothers everywhere and it paid off. Seeing our pubs full of people enjoying themselves is what we love most and bodes well for the year ahead.

“Our Gloucestershire pubs were packed to the rafters with racing fans from all over the world, here to enjoy everything the iconic Cheltenham Festival has to offer. We were delighted to look after them with superb accommodation, excellent food and our award-winning beer and it was great seeing everyone coming together and enjoying themselves.”
