BrewDog co-founder James Watt has announced he is to launch a new business called Social Tip this summer.

The new business will be in the brand-building space and “will focus on building community and rewarding everyday people for genuine brand advocacy and love,” Watt said in a post on LinkedIn.

While details remain thin on the ground, Watt added that he is looking for applicants to lead the company’s US operations. He also announced the Social Tip Graduate Program, which allows UK-based graduates to work directly with Watt and the director of partnerships.

On 8 May 2024, the founder announced his intention to step down as BrewDog CEO after 17 years at the helm.

He transitioned to a new role – that of ‘captain and co-founder’ – with James Arrow promoted to CEO. The Bars business continues to be led by James Brown.

In an interview with the Sunday Times on 13 May, Watt revealed that his stepping down was unrelated to a potential stock market flotation for BrewDog.

The IPO was “not on the immediate horizon,” he said, adding that he had always wanted to build multiple businesses.
