Ahead of British Pie Week starting on Monday, Vintage Inns has released the results of a survey showing it sells 1.6 million pies across its 200 sites each year.

Topping the pie chart are those living in the South East, who eat 12,815 pies at the 15 Vintage Inns sites in the region each month.

Chicken, pulled ham and leek – a recipe created for Vintage Inns by chef James Martin – is the region’s favourite choice, closely followed by beef and merlot.

Essex and East Anglia (selling 12,122 pies per month) and the North East (11,930 pies per month) come in second and third place respectively.

Emily Deaves, marketing manager at Vintage Inns, said: “The pie is a true king of classic British cuisine and our chefs take their pie making very seriously. We sell thousands of pies each week, especially on our Vintage Pie Wednesdays.”
