Pint Shop, the two-strong beer house operator, has launched a new brand and is considering the potential for a smaller format model to accelerate growth, MCA has learnt.

The group, which was founded by Benny Peverelli and Richard Holmes, last night launched cocktail bar and restaurant ‘Under the Shop’ in the basement of its George Street site in Oxford.

The group is partnering with London Cocktail Club to offer cocktails on tap in the site and will be offering a limited menu from the core brand. It will open weekdays from 4pm until late and from midday at weekends.

Holmes told MCA that there was scope to add an ‘Over the Shop’ at its new site in Birmingham, which is due to launch in September.

On further growth, Holmes said: “We’ve grown to three in five years, which is ok but isn’t exactly breakneck speed. Part of that is because it’s a big investment to open a Pint Shop and there are only certain sites we can look at. What we’re considering at the moment is a smaller model, where we can shave some costs off the typical opening.

“A new format could give us the option to double up in places like Oxford.”
