Marston’s, the brewer and pub operator, is looking to appoint its first franchise development manager, M&C Report has learnt.

It’s understood the company is looking for candidates with experience in franchising in general rather than a specific background in the pub trade, as Marston’s looks to position its Retail Agreement as a pure franchise offer distinct from its tenanted/leased and managed estates. It also comes as Marston’s looks to evolve its franchises with the trial of new agreements under the Pub Franchise label, incorporating two community pub formats from its managed division.

The job specification says the franchise development manager would be based in Marstons’ operation team and “play a pivotal role in developing all aspects of the franchise culture and relationships across all areas of the business”.

The individual would “take full P&L responsibility for a number of our franchise businesses” and “help to develop a wider understanding of franchise behaviours across the group, identifying areas where we can make our offer even better”.

The position would also have a public relations role and also involve liaising between Marston’s and the British Franchise Association.

Marston’s introduced its franchise Retail Agreement in 2009 and has been introduced to c600 pubs to date.
