Subway, the sandwich chain, has announced that it has now rolled out its more upscale Metropolitan branding to over 300 of its sites in the UK.

The company said the new look allows it to compete on better terms with more “upscale on-the-go concepts” on high streets.

The new design is available for all new sites from now on and also those looking to upgrade.

At the same time, the company has opened its latest site at a university in partnership with Compass. The Middlesex University opening is part of the group’s plans to open sites in non-traditional locations.

It currently has more than 300 stores open or in development in non-traditional locations.

Trevor Haynes, area development manager, Subway UK & Ireland, said: “This is a fantastic partnership for Compass and the Subway brand, students are a key target market for us and with the simplicity of operations and limited waste, the Compass Group is providing a new offering that works well within the student union. High sales in the first week further demonstrate the success of this store and we look forward to many more to follow.”
