Pret A Manger has increased the price of some of its menu items by as much as 18%, in response to food inflation and the cost of energy, it has been reported.

The price of an all-butter croissant at Pret’s station sites has increased by 18.2%, for example, the equivalent of 40p, to £2.90, while chocolate croissants have increased from £2.55 to £2.90 (+13.7%), The Daily Mail has reported.

A snapshot survey by the publication found that the prices charged for its products varied significantly dependant on the location of its shops.

Although the prices charged in its high street locations also went up, they were generally by a much lower percentage. For example, all butter croissants rose from £2.10 to £2.30 (+9.5%), and chocolate croissants by 4.10% to £2.50.

“Like many businesses, we have had to increase our prices to respond to rising cost pressures. We’ve also chosen to invest in our hardworking team by providing them with higher wages they deserve,” a spokesperson for Pret A Manger told The Daily Mail.

“Earlier this year, we introduced new offers giving customers more choice and better value from our range of high-quality freshly made food and organic coffee. This includes our expanded Made Simple range and our Coffee Subscription which continue to offer great value.”
