High street bakery Greggs has joined the business-led programme Healthy High Streets to help regenerate the UK’s town centres.

The programme has highlighted 100 towns to benefit from regeneration with an aim to increase footfall, reduce vacant properties and create new jobs in struggling.

The programme has shown some great successes in its first year, including initiatives by local High Street Champions in Bristol Broadmead and Maidenhead to extend opening hours, successful renewal of the Plymouth City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) which has secured £8.6m to provide a cleaner and safer city and an increase in footfall of 5% in Stockton.

Towns selected for the programme are offered a bespoke support package including access to skills and expertise as well as working with supporting businesses to partner with the local authority to address specific local and regional challenges.

Greggs joins retailers in supporting the campaign that launched last year and continues to add more areas to its work.
