Pret A Manger saw sales decline over the Easter period across the board, according to Bloomberg’s latest Pret Index.

Sales in the West End were at 86% of pre-pandemic levels, down 12%, while the City of London saw a 13% to 60%.

Sales in London’s entertainment and shopping district were the lowest since January as the number of tourists coming into the capital for the long weekend wasn’t enough to offset residents leaving town, said Bloomberg.

In addition, the impact of flight cancellations led to the end of three-months of consecutive gains for the food to go operator in its airport locations.

Transactions in the cluster of Pret sites that includes Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton fell by about a tenth last week, according to the index, but sales were still higher than they were before the pandemic at 112%.

Sales also remained above pre-pandemic levels at its London suburb locations at 103%, despite a 13% decline in the week to 21 April. Sales in London train station locations fell 8% to 85% of pre-Covid levels.
