Urban Baristas has revealed ambitions to grow from six sites to thirty over the next three years.

The speciality coffee shop group is set to restart its expansion with a 750sq ft unit at a former Caffe Nero site at 22-24 Wormwood Street, in the City of London on 6 December.

Sites in South Kensington and several more near Underground stations are currently in legals, with hopes they will open in the first quarter of next year.

Meanwhile, a 2,200 sq ft café-roastery – the brand’s “biggest site to date” – is set to open in St Kathrine Docks, East London.

The brand us also preparing to release a range of direct to consumer coffee pods.

Founder Huw Wardrope told MCA: “We are taking the view that things will eventually get back to some kind of normality – maybe not 100% but we still think there’s business to be done in the city.”

Wardrope expects to have 10 site locations by the end of the first quarter and 30 within three years.

Urban Baristas will target a mix of city and residential locations as well as neighbourhood cafes, he said.

“We will probably venture outside London at some stage and into wholesale supplying and continue with our coffee through the door which has seen a big increase in the past year,” he added.
