Starbucks has launched the first of its “coffee theatre” Reserve brand in the UK.
The new site in London’s Upper St Martin’s Lane offers an evening menu featuring craft beer and wine as well as fresh food such as pastries, salads and sharing platters of cheeses, meats and flatbread.
Customers order from their seat using a handheld device.Rhys Iley, vice-president of operations for Starbucks in the UK and Europe, the Middle East and Africa regions (EMEA), said the inspiration for the store was the success of a new roastery that had opened this year in the company’s home town, Seattle, in America.
He said: “London is the most competitive coffee market – bar none and we wanted to showcase our fantastic heritage in coffee and bring that to a very discerning UK and London customer”,
Beers sold at the new site come from breweries in Hackney and Battersea, while the wines are from vineyards in Washington state in the US.
Starbucks announced earlier this year that it hoped to open 500 Reserve bars worldwide.
