Pinkberry, the low-fat Korean frozen yoghurt concept known in the US as “crackberry” for its apparently addictive qualities, is set to exit the UK after reportedly placing its two standalone sites here on the market.
According to Property Week, the concept, which launched in the UK in July 2011, has placed its sites at Westfield Stratford City and Bluewater on the market. It is also set to close its concession in Selfridges.
Two years ago the group, which Starbucks founder Howard Schultz as a board member, announced its intention to secure up to 12 standalone stores of between 1,000 sq ft and 1,500 sq ft in London and the south-east.
It opened its first site in Selfridges then expanded to Westfield Stratford City in February 2012, followed by Bluewater in August last year.
The group currently operates c225 sites around the world, with the majority based in the US.
In 2007, the company received a $27.5m investment from Maveron, the venture capital fund set up by Schultz, to expand in the US.
