Honest Coffees, the Devon based wholesaler and coffee machine supplier, is planning to move into retail stores with the opening of one or two shops and roastery, MCA has learnt.

The group, led by ex US intelligence officer and Barclays investment banker Wyatt Cavalier, supplies Fairtrade, speciality coffee solutions to offices and independent pubs and restaurants.

Cavalier told MCA he was exploring the potential for retail stores, with a possible site in an up and coming area of Plymouth, and another attached to a planned roastery on the A379 corridor between Plymouth and Exeter.

Honest Coffees is in talks with pub groups and expects to supply the equivalent of two to three million cups of coffee in 2017, compared to one million last year.

He said there was lots of potential growth for speciality coffee at a higher pricepoint, as UK tastes continued to mature.

Cavalier said: “Tastes have evolved and people are better able to tell better quality coffee, and the number of independent coffee shops has sky rocketed over the last few years

“It’s been a late to hit the UK but people’s tastes are a lot sharper than they were.”
