Hi Coffee, the Wales-based grab and go concept, is launching a franchising business to fast-track its expansion, MCA has learnt.

The concept, which is led by Jonathan Hill, will launch two pilot stores in South Wales later this year under its express shipping container-style format, which it sees as a small footprint, flexible and accessible route to growth.

The currently seven-strong business, which recently opened two sites at Gatwick, is targeting train stations, service stations, forecourts, and offices, and has a larger metro format, and a smaller micro format.

Hill told MCA he had pitched Hi Coffee as an aspirational brand, with a premium coffee offer and a corporate design.

He said: “Our Hi Coffee Express coffee shop format is perfect for coffee and food to go. It has a wide potential, and sits well against any corporate or retail environment.

“In 2019 we are launching a pilot franchising model of our brand and business to prospective entrepreneurs initially who are wanting to run their own business and help us grow the Hi Coffee brand into towns and cities.

“Our vision for franchising is to me aspirational, accessible and affordable. Our vision is to offer one of the UK’s most affordable franchises with a low cost entry point on the licencing and ongoing fees.”

Hill said the brand, which also has four sites in Wales, was targeting further sites in the South West, South East and Wales.
