The average millennial household will spend £115,000 on eating out during their lifetime, a new report has shown – with another £39,000 going on alcohol.

The Cost of Tomorrow report by Tilney shows that the average household in their 20s can expect to spend £1.8m across their lifetime.

The poll shows top quarter of households in their 20s will spend £201,000 on eating out and £50,000 on alcohol.

The report also shows an increased desire to eat out as we get older with 37% of retirees intending to regularly eat out compared to 27% of non-retirees.

Andy Cowan, of the financial services company Tilney, which published the report, said: “The sums we spend over our lifetimes … seem mind-bogglingly large and yet they reflect the reality of life in Britain today.”
